Large-scale design
This typographic project was created using the Maya Angelou quote, ‘You cannot use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.’
When thinking about what an endless loop of creativity looks like, I picture bright energy bursting out from a single point. Nighttime and the starry sky have been associated with creativity throughout human history, so I incorporated star-like and sparkle graphic elements to create a feeling of movement. The intention is to create a feeling that the creativity is exploding out from the words themselves.
In 2023, I was part of a group of four TAFE Queensland Diploma of Graphic Design students chosen to develop a peer-to-peer advertising campaign with Re:act and Transurban. Re:act is a road safety behaviour change program that collaborates with government, educational institutions and students to create awareness campaigns aimed at drivers aged 17 – 25.
Our concept, ‘Don’t Meet Max’, is a play on well-known ‘Slow for Sam’ character. We created an anthropomorphized speed sign (Max), to represent the dangers and consequences of speeding. Our intention was to create something that balanced its message with playfulness.
We then worked with Re:act and Transurban to refine the concept for campaigns on digital billboards across Queensland, pictured here at Brisbane Airport.
